Danny Williams was named the 2013 Sertoman of the Year at the club’s meeting hosted by DuPre’s at 300 Senate Street. The award is given annually by the Columbia Sertoma Club to recognize the Sertoma member that most represents the values of Sertoma – commitment to public service and true “Service to Mankind”.

Mr. Williams served as both President and Chairman of the club during 2013. In these positions he ran club meetings, oversaw multiple boards and committees, and provided invaluable guidance in charting the course forward and keeping the club true to it’s mission, which is Service to Mankind.

In addition to his recent service, Danny has been a member of Sertoma since 1997, has attended numerous district, regional and national conventions, and has participated in and lead many of the club’s fundraising and service events, most notably the Carolina Children’s Home Fundraiser that has raised more than $3.6 million since 1968.
His commitment to public service is envious and quite frankly knows few bounds. He is an example of what a Sertoman should be.

Along with his sister Tia Simmons, Mr. Shuron has recently started the “Stop the Violence” movement in Columbia. Because he’s still young and has contact with active gang members, Shuron serves as a sounding board for those young members and criminals looking to turn their lives around. He has made it his mission to be there for any that need a way out. His talk was honest and passionate, and very moving.
