Sarah Lewis, Executive Director of Columbia’s Vista Guild, delivered great news to the Sertoma Club this past Monday, August 4. Basically, the Vista is experiencing tremendous growth.

More than $500 million in direct investment is taking place now and will result in 3,000+ new residents living in the district over the next few years. The new investment is a combination of mixed use, residential, hotels, restaurants, The State Museum and Three Rivers Greenways expansion, and much else.

The Vista currently sees more than 2 million visitors per year with the number growing. The Convention Center brings in 10-20,000 people per month throughout the year and that number continues to grow. The University of South Carolina is also expanding rapidly with it’s brand new Alumni Center and the new Darla Moore School of Business. Each are expected to bring new people to the area and increase the number of dollars spent and the amount of taxes generated.

Columbia Sertoma Club member Todd Lewis delivered good news at the club’s first meeting of 2014 on January 6. In short, Columbia is a national leader when it comes to Information Technology (IT).

Todd took attendees on a tour of the Columbia IT scene, which includes one of the largest Insurance Technology clusters in the country, three well known national conferences, a healthy User Group environment, and has had a gaggle of local and regional press lately.

In addition, Columbia was recently recognized by the Bay Area Council as the 2nd fastest growing city in the country from 2010-2011 in terms of High Tech job growth, and #4 from 2006-2011. These are fantastic numbers, and amazingly, few people in the Columbia and Midlands area are aware of them.
