Columbia Sertoma hosted USC Baseball Coach Chad Holbrook at its January 7 meeting. Â The crowd was large to hear Holbrook speak and included members as well as many guests.
The new USC coach talked about replacing Ray Tanner and what an honor it is to coach the premier college baseball program in the country. Â He also explained how he originally joined the USC staff, which involved a lengthy delay as his son battled cancer. Â Joining the USC staff was a dream come true and also enabled his family to live in his wife’s hometown (she’s from Columbia).
Coach Holbrook finished up by talking about his recruiting class, who the team lost to graduation and the draft, and what the prospects for 2013 look like. Â He was extremely positive, and although the Gamecocks are preseason ranked #7 but 4th in SEC, he feels it’s going to be a great year.
