2009 Carolina Children’s Home Campaign Big Success

The Columbia Sertoma Club raised more than $56,000 during its 2009 Carolina Children’s Home campaign. This year’s campaign was the 42nd time Sertoma has raised money for the Children’s Home and pushed the total amount donated since 1968 to more than $3.3 million.

Ernie Lawhorne started the fundraising effort on behalf of Sertoma in 1968 and was instrumental in assuring its success over the past four decades. To raise money, Sertoma members contact friends, family, and colleagues and ask for contributions. It is the single largest fundraiser the organization coordinates annually.

The Columbia Sertoma Club again raised more than $100,000 during its just-completed 2008-2009 fiscal year. Sertoma used the money raised to assist more than twenty-three Columbia-based organizations.

The Club held multiple fundraisers during the course of the year, including the annual Carolina Children’s home campaign, the Tailgate Fundraiser for Charity, parking cars before USC home football games, and others. In addition, many volunteers were needed to make these fundraisers possible. The club thanks and appreciates every one of them.
